Project Arts of Plymouth, the nonprofit organization that produces the popular Summer Concert Series at Harbor Light Pavillion on Plymouth Waterfront, is hosting its annual “Toast to the Arts” event tonight at 7pm at the Spire Center for Performing Arts, featuring the Arty Awards ceremony. Tickets are $40 in advance or $45 at the door, and proceeds will go towards producing more arts and culture programs and events in Plymouth. Tickets are available at www.spirecenter.org.
The Arty Awards honor individuals and organizations who donate their time, effort, and talents to Plymouth’s creative community and are respondible for Plymouth’s exciting and vibrant arts scene.
Tonight’s event will honor long-standing movers and shakers in Plymouth’s arts community with the Heritage Award, like Edward Santos, who played a major role in the creation of Plymouth’s new amphitheater and consistently supports many arts organizations in town; Therese Murray, who championed arts initiatives throughout her career in the Massachusetts State Senate; and Priscilla Beach Theatre, the oldest operating barn theater in the country.
Other Arty Awards will be presented to individuals and organizations, groups, foundations, etc., who have gone above and beyond, in the previous year or in some cases, years in their innovation, hard work, dedication, love, support and commitment to Arts, humanities and interpretive sciences.They have heavily impacted and improved our way of living in the Plymouth Community. Finalists for the Arty Awards include Plimoth Cinema, Plymouth Center for the Arts/ Plymouth Guild for the Arts, Geoffrey and Joyce Stewart, Downtown First Saturday, Denise Maccaferri, Friends of Myles Standish State Forest, Plymouth North High School Performing Arts Program, and the Spire Center for Performing Arts.

HERITAGE AWARD FINALISTS
This ARTY Award is for individuals, organizations, groups, foundations, etc., who have shown a lifelong love, support and commitment to Arts, humanities and interpretive sciences.
EDWARD M. SANTOS – As a longtime supporter and philanthropist, Ed has worked tirelessly, as an individual and through his long association with the Plymouth Industrial Development Corporation to strengthen and support the Arts in our community. As a key influencer and decision maker on the PIDC, Ed has encouraged prolific support of Arts and culture in Plymouth, for more than 50 years.
THERESE MURRAY – Massachusetts First Women Senate President, who has championed the Arts for her entire career. There is no one in the Plymouth Arts Community who has not been touched by her generosity, leadership and inspiration, for decades.
PRISCILLA BEACH THEATre – The oldest barn theater still operating in America. It’s long and rich history, complete with a Star-studded list of famous actors who have graced it’s stages, continues it’s tradition today. Mentioning long-time owner Dr. Howard Trask is important. Since 1962, Geronimo Sands(James Lonigro) has put his heart and Soul into the theater. Enter Bob & Sandy Malone, who have purchased the theater from Geronimo and continue the long tradition, by investing all that they have into this amazing heritage. Priscilla Beach Theatre is not only a wonderful place to see world class theater, but a great source for the educational programs that continue, year after year. Another of Plymouth’s hidden gems.

GREATER PLYMOUTH PERFORMING ARTS CENTER/ The SPIRE – A Non-Profit Organization Dedicated to Performing Arts and Educational Programs, and a venue to serve as a mecca for the arts and showcasing music, theater and dance performances.
