With the 2020 commemoration of Plymouth 400 just around the corner, it is a perfect opportunity to learn about preservation, community, advocacy, history, and more in America’s Hometown.
Preservation Massachusetts and our partners are excited to bring the 2019 Statewide Historic Preservation Conference to Plymouth. The conference will be held on Friday, September 20, 2019, at the Hotel 1620. This biennial statewide conference is an important opportunity to bring together those involved with preservation, community, advocacy, and history to learn, share, mentor, and network. The theme of the 2019 conference is “Untold Stories in Preservation” — we will examine the ways in which historic preservation can reflect the many histories encapsulated within our communities and how those stories are interpreted and presented. The conference will include a mix of tours, panel discussions, case studies, and other educational sessions, along with networking opportunities, resource and information tables and a closing reception.

The UMass Boston Mass. Memories Road Show is an exciting digital history project documenting people and events in Massachusetts through photographs and stories connected to Plymouth, MA. On Saturday, November 9th Mass. Memories Road Show staff and volunteers will be on hand to scan family and community photographs as well as record the “stories behind the photos.” All Plymouth residents are invited to bring in photos, which will become part of a state-wide digital collection as well as a second collection available on the Plymouth Public Library’s website.
Help us reach our goal of at least 400 photo contributors which will accurately reflect the composition of our community and to tell the full history of “America’s Hometown” on the eve of the 400th commemoration of the landing of the Pilgrims.
This event will take place in the Fehlow Room at the main library.
About the Collection:
The Mass. Memories Road Show (MMRS) at UMass Boston is an event-based public history project that digitizes family photos and memories shared by the people of Massachusetts. University Archives staff work with local planning teams to organize free public events where residents are invited to bring family photos to be scanned and included in this digital archive. Contributors are invited to share “the story behind the photos” on video, have their own “keepsake photo” taken, and receive advice from professional archivists and historians on dating and caring for their family photos.
To date, the project has digitized more than 11,000 photographs and stories from across the state, creating an educational resource of primary sources for future generations.
The Mass. Memories Road Show is supported in part through the generosity of the Patricia C. Flaherty ’81 Endowed Fund at the University of Massachusetts Boston.
