Southampton’s Mayflower Maritime Festival, presented by Mayflower 400 UK,  will deliver three days of memorable cultural, heritage and maritime activity, promoting the city’s pivotal role in the Mayflower’s journey and its wider maritime heritage.

Highlights will include the unveiling of the renovated Mayflower Memorial, a parade of sails featuring local boats, newly-commissioned musicals at the Mayflower Theatre, and exhibitions at historic buildings including Tudor House and God’s House Tower.

You’ll be able to see the Wampum belt at the SeaCity Museum and a range of displays and activities at the National Oceanographic Centre, with content from the Maritime Archaeology Trust.

The Association of Sail Trading Organisations will be in port with around 200 young people learning to sail, while the Queen Mary II will set sail for America, leaving Southampton just as the Pilgrims did 400 years ago.

Marking the 400th Anniversary of the Mayflower leaving Southampton, the Maritime Festival will run 14th-16th August 2020. Activities are still being finalized with more details available soon!

A Rededication of the Pilgrim Mother Fountain by the Daughters of the American Revolution will take place on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at 10:00AM. The event is open to the public and Daughters from across the country will attend the ceremony.

During the Continental Congress of 1920, the Daughters of the American Revolution voted to present a monument in memory of the Pilgrims and in honor of the 300th Anniversary of the landing of the Mayflower.  In the next two years, funds were raised and an architect and sculpture were secured. In 1925 the fountain was dedicated.

In 2019, the VanBuren Administration of the Daughters of the American Revolution secured the funds and with the assistance of the Department of Conservation and Recreation and Skylight Studios, conservation and restoration of the fountain were completed in honor of the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the Mayflower and the women who were on board.

The rededication will be held at the fountain site on the corner of Water Street and North Street in Plymouth, MA.

The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster presents Origins of the Mayflower Compact with authors and research team Francis and Dorothy Robinson on Thursday, March 26, 2020 at 1:00PM.

The Mayflower Compact planted the seeds that guided our nation on its path to a constitutional government and American democracy. The Compact evolved from centuries of English history honed by the Pilgrims’ extensive experiences in communal self-government and religious freedom.

The Mayflower Compact was important because it was the first document to establish self-government in the New World. Written and signed aboard the Mayflower in Provincetown Harbor on November 11, 1620, prior to its landing in Plymouth, Massachusetts, it remained active until 1691 when Plymouth Colony became part of Massachusetts Bay Colony.

Francis is a descendant of Mayflower passengers, Elder William Brewster and Peregrine White. He and his wife Dorothy are the authors of Pilgrims, Puritans, and Early Cape Cod History which is also a class that Fran teaches for the Academy of Life Long Learning at Cape Cod Community College.  In addition, they have written a number of articles appearing in publications including the Journal of the Cape Cod Genealogical Society, Elder William Brewster Press, Cape newspapers, and historical societies.

The event is free with Museum admission. For more information, please call the Museum at 508-896-3867, ext. 133.

Award-winning author Nathaniel Philbrick will discuss his 2007 book, Mayflower, and why this voyage was so important to America’s history.
